World Forest Center is right in the heart of Washington National Park. In 1966, a group of civic and industry leaders created the nonprofit organization to inspire and develop sustainable forestry. Construction of the building started in Portland, Oregon near Oregon Zoo. There are over 40 countries that send delegates to the center to do advance research and networking in forestry and its related fields.The Discovery Museum is within the center and opens to the public. It educates the people about local and global forests. The premier forest called Magness Memorial Tree Farm is in Sherwood. The Tree Farm is a place to apply hands-on outdoor learning. World Forestry Center has over 65,000 visitors annually. The campus serves as a place for events and meetings.
After learning about forest and trees, it is helpful to walk around the nearby Washington Park which is less than two minutes away. For those with kids, the Portland Children’s Museum offers hands-on activity sessions within a few blocks from the center.
