Vijayawada Airport is a public airport owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). What is known as Vijayawada Airport today started as an airfield for the army during World War II. After the war, the airfield was converted into a public airport to be used by the civilians. Located in the town of Gannavaram in Vijayawada, India, VGA Airport handles flights to and from destinations such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, among others. Travelers to and from Vijayawada Airport have six airlines to choose from, including Air India and IndiGo.

Built on a 500-acre area, Vijayawada Airport has 16 parking bays, two taxiways, and an asphalt runway that is 3,360 meters long. VGA Airport’s sole terminal handles domestic flights. The airport offers facilities for first aid, a child care room and assistance for the physically challenged. VGA amenities include a VIP lounge, a smokers lounge, an ATM, a snack bar, a mobile charging area and free WiFi for 15 minutes. Plans for upgrades on the terminal and the whole airport are underway, as AAI gears to accommodate international fights and more domestic destinations.
