The Tulsa International Airport is known as a civil-military airport. It is the headquarters for all Maintenance and Engineering activities at American Airlines worldwide located 5 mile northeast of downtown Tulsa. Its airport code, TUL, stands for Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Since 1929, the airport was named Tulsa Municipal Airport when the city acquired it in that year. But in 1963, it got its present name. As of December 31, 2018, the airport had 93,760 aircraft operations, averaging 256 per day: 43% general aviation & air taxi, 36% airline and 20% military and 180 aircraft are based at the airport.
