Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport - TPE
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is the country’s busiest and largest airport and serves the capital city of Taipei. It is located in Taoyuan’s Dayuan District, approximately 25 miles west of Taipei, Taiwan. Formerly called the Chiang Kai-shek International Airport, it was renamed in 2006 and, until 1979, was Taipei’s only international airport. 2016 was a remarkable year for the airport, as not only did it get a record number of 42.3 million passengers, it was also lauded by Airports Council International as the Asia-Pacific Region’s best airport for its size. Presently, it is the main international hub for EVA Air and China Airlines.
Best Time to Visit
Constructed out of the need to relieve the increasing passenger traffic to Taipei’s original airport, Taoyuan International Aiport’s Terminal 1 was opened on February 26, 1979. The airport’s second terminal was built as an answer to overcrowding, and started operations on half of its gates in July of 2000. It wasn’t until 2005 when all gates of Terminal 2 were fully utilized. Passengers flying in to this international airport can head out to explore other nearby cities like Keelung, and Taishan.
