Tortosa: A Historic City
Tortosa, Spain is the capital of Baix Ebre in Catalonia, Spain. Its location is one of the ancient settlements on the Castillo de la Zuda hill. The commune has gone through a deep historical background. It was formerly under Muslim rule for 400 years and later on was freed during the Second Crusade. Due to its historical roots, the commune is filled with religious structures and architectures. There are also lines of 14th to 19th century architecture enriching the town with its regal structures. The nearest possible airport is the Reus Airport.
Best Time to Visit
March through May are the busiest times of the year when there is the driest and warmest weather which is fit for a tour through the streets of Tortosa. August is a good time to visit for slower times and fair weather. Every July, the Renaissance Festival is celebrated where a wide range of cultural and recreational activities is done to commemorate the historical period of the 16th century.

There are several attractions that capture the historical city of Tortosa. The La Suda Castle, which was built in the 10th century, is continuously preserved for its structure as well as it having the only open air Islamic necropolis in Catalonia. With same historic roots and structure, Parador de Tortosa is a luxurious accommodation turned from a 10th century old castle. Another Baroque style religious architecture is the Sta. Maria de Tortosa Cathedral, which was built in 1347 whose interior is made out of Gothic jewel.
