Suphan Buri: A Celebration of Thai-Chinese Friendship
Suphan Buri, Thailand is a central province that is said to have been inhabited first during the Dvaravati period. At the time, it was known as “Meuang Thawarawadi Si Suphannaphumi”. Then, it adopted the name “U Thong” when it became the home of Prince U Thong, Ayutthaya Kingdom founder. Its current name was given by King Khun Luang Pha Ngua.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit Suphan Buri is during the months of November to April. Tourists usually flock during the months of January, June, and July. They are least likely to visit the province in April. Sometime around August or September, locals celebrate Thing Krachat Festival. Held in the Dong Hua Huai Guan Chinese Association Hall, the celebration is intended to preserve the traditions of merit-making, and to celebrate the diplomatic ties between Thailand and China. During the festival, people get to participate in and enjoy various activities, such as international masquerade show, City Pillar Deities’ procession, and the Sino-Thai cultural dances and performances.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Tourists should see Banharn-Jamsai Tower, the country’s tallest tower, when in the province. It was named after former Prime Minister Banham Silpa-archa and Jamsai Silpa-archa, his wife. Dragon Descendants Museum is also a must-see. It was built to honor the diplomatic ties between Thailand and China. As such, it showcases the rich history of the Chinese civilization over the past 5,000 years or so. There are a lot of great Suphan Buri, Thailand hotels, including the 4-star Songphanburi Hotel, Country Lake View Hotel, and Muaan Resort. These hotels are just near the city center.
