Soderhamn: For A Quiet Getaway
Located in Gavleborg County is the appealing historic town of Soderhamn, Sweden. It sits at the foot of a hill and is highly urbanized. The town is connected via high-speed railway from the capital city, Stockholm. Many of those who wish to avoid touristy places may find the town’s tranquility to be calming. And just like the other major cities, there are plenty of activities -- both and indoor and outdoor, that awaits you.
Best Time to Visit
Soderhamn uncommonly experiences warm weather or even the sun shining brightly as more often, the town is partly cloudy. The months between late June and early August have the most favorable weather condition, neither too cold nor too warm. These are also the best months for some outdoor recreational activities that involves a lot of walking. Do note that there are many travelers visiting the area during these times and Soderhamn hotels are more expensive than usual.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Built in the 1800s, the First Hotel Statt Söderhamn is one of the most recommended hotels in town. Even though it is centrally located near shops and restaurants, the hotel offers complimentary continental breakfast. Another good choice would be the Best Western Hotell SoderH which also provides free breakfast and even free parking space. A little bit further away but also a great choice is the Scandic Bollnäs with a serene view of a lake. Nearby the Helsinge Airport, you will find the interesting Soderhamn F15 Aviation Museum. Many aircrafts, life-sized ones, are on display. If you wish to get a view of the entire town, head on to the Oskarsborg Tower. It was once a part of fortress located in Soderhamn. In the town square is a notable historic building called Ulrika Eleonora Church. It was established in the 17th century.
