Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport – SHD Airport
The Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport – SHD Airport, caters Weyers Cave in Virginia. This airport is used for civil use and is owned by the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport Commission, which is a union of cities Staunton, Waynesboro and Harrisonburg, and the counties of Augusta and Rockingham. Locust Dale, Scottsville and Zion Crossroads are cities and town surrounding SHD airport. Majority of SHD airport operation is on General Aviation and air taxis. Most aircrafts hub in the airport are single-engine aircrafts.
Best Time to Visit
SHD airport was completed in 1958 and only started its service in 1960 by using the war-surplus DC-3s. The airport had undergone several enhancements over time. In 1991, commuter terminal was enlarged to accommodate better. In 2004, SHD was again awarded grant for repair of runways and, in 2005 for the repair of its air taxiways. Currently, there are only one-passenger airlines operating in SHD airport- the United Express, which brings passengers to Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles.
