The Shanghai Oriental Sports Centre is a famous landmark in Shanghai not only for the building’s impressive design on a man-made lake but more importantly for its function in the area. The huge sports complex is the venue of many local, national, and international sports events most particularly, swimming. Established on July 2011, the modern arena undergone a 2-year construction amounting to USD 313 million prior to its opening date. It features a first-class indoor arena, which boasts an impressive 18,000 seating capacity. The two swimming pool venues, one indoor and another outdoor, both have a capacity of 5,000 seats. The arena played host to some notable events including the 2017 League of Legends World Championship Semifinals and the 14th World Aquatics Championships.
The Shanghai Oriental Sports Complex sits on an artificial lake, which is directly connected to the Huangpu River.
