One of the popular Sweon sights is the Water Castle (Tamansari). With a name that means “beautiful garden adorned with flowers”, this castle was built in the 18th century during the reign of Sultan Hamengkunuwono I and is considered as a World Heritage Site.
Fort Vredeburg Museum is another Sewon attraction that boasts much of the city’s history. The fort served as a formal colonial fortress, which was then converted into an Independence Struggle Museum. Just across it is Kraton Complex.
