Santander: A Diving Spot in Cebu
Santander, Philippines is a fourth class municipality in Cebu originally known as “Tañong”. The smallest town in Cebu, it was renamed when the Spanish arrived in the country. It was established as a town in 1867 and a municipality in 1918.
Best Time to Visit
With a tropical monsoon climate, the best time to visit Santander is during the months of February through March and May through June. The busiest months are usually January, May, and September. Tourists are least likely to visit in June. Tostado Festival, which is held every third Sunday of April, is one of the most anticipated events in the municipality. It features street dances with different moves of making tostadas, sweet toasted biscuits popular in the area.

Pescador Island in Moalboal is one of the must-see nearby attractions. It boasts with rich marine life with more than 2,500 fish species. It is also home to a massive school of sardines. There is no wonder why it is a popular site for recreational divers. As a marine park, it charges every diver for the implementation of village improvement programs, marine conservation education of village children and adults, among others. Tourists should also visit Fuerte de San Pedro in Plaza Independencia. It is a military defense structure originally built in wood. The current structure was constructed in the early 18th century.
