Sampit: Timber City
Sampit is a town in Kalimantan Province on the island of Borneo, Indonesia. It is also the biggest timber port in the country. The town is known worldwide for its historic inter-ethnic violent communal conflicts, displacing natives and other ethnic groups that resided in the city. However, the town continues to grow for its timber industry and its other natural attractions.
Best Time to Visit
Visiting the city, or the country, is best during comfortable weather and climate. Months from June to August experience the preferred climate and temperature. These months, however, have busier days and higher Sampit hotel rates. Visiting during late April to late May is a great alternative.

With its seaside location, there are a lot of natural activities to be experienced in Sampit. The Jelawat Fish Garden and the Pandara Beach are two local marine attractions in the town. The latter is located by the seaside at the mouth of the Sampit River. Also, there are historical and cultural attractions like the Kayu Sampit Museum. It is technically a wood museum built in 2003, features historical wooden objects that honors the town's timber industry.
