Rafina-Pikermi: Haven for Relics Lover
Rafina-Pikermi, Greece is known for its paleontological site found in the municipality. It is located in East Attica in Attica Region. The main municipal town in Rafina. Rafina and Pikermi were merged together in 2011. The history of the town dates back in 1835. It started with a Bavarian soldier. He found a sparkling object and thought it was crystal. However, it was inside cavities of animals that were extinct thousand years ago. Geographically, the merged town is about 25 miles from the city of Athens. International research described it as Acropolis of Paleontology. This is due to the number of animal species found in the area. Athens International Airport (ATH) is about 20 minutes away.
