Pont-Aven: A Painting Depicted City
If you want to visit a place that’s been beautifully rendered into one of the most iconic paintings today, add Pont-Aven, France to your list. The area is best known because of a group of artists collectively known as the “Pont-Aven School”. The “Watermill in Pont-Aven” painted by Paul Gauguin in 1894 remains one of the more iconic works of art today and was inspired by the city.
Best Time to Visit
If you’re visiting Pont-Aven for the art and galleries, then any month of the year will do. The museums and art galleries are open all year round and will give you access to some of the best paintings made by current artists. Maybe you might even bring one home with you! For the sites however, June, July, and August are the perfect ones with mild weather. Off peak season starts from the month of November. You can also use Pont-Aven as a jump off point to other cities celebrating their own festivals like the Festival of Blue Nets or the Cornwall Festival.
