Phaeno Science Center, Wolfsburg, Germany
Designed by Zaha Hadid, a British-Iraqi architect, the Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany is an interactive science center that was constructed as a part of the city’s urban planning. The site where the science center now stands was developed back in 1998 and was initially meant to be an art museum. However, the City’s Director for Culture during that time countered the idea, saying that such a facility would only compete with the already successful Kunst Museum in the city. The director then suggested to put up a science center instead, after being inspired by a science center he visited in Switzerland. The Phaeno Science Center was officially opened in the latter part of 2005.
A quick three-minute drive away from the science facility is the Volkswagen Autostadt Complex, also within Wolfsburg. This visitor attraction is strategically located next to the Volkswagen factory and comes complete with a museum, a customer center where new cars are picked up, and several feature pavilions. From there, spend your night strolling around the Designer Outlets Wolfsburg. There are at least 85 prominent clothing brands in the complex, including Guess, Adidas, and Calvin Klein.
