Paray-le-Monial: The City of Sacred Heart
Paray-le-Monial is a town in eastern France’s Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is popularly known as the “city of Sacred Heart” due to the locals’ devotion to the belief that Jesus is God’s greatest manifestation of love for humankind. It is also well visited for its medieval town center, historical monuments, educational museums, and grand basilicas.
Best Time to Visit
Most of the religious festivals are celebrated in this town from the month of February to April, such as the Paray-le-Monial retreat and Feasts of Divine Mercy. However, unlike other festivals, these are not celebrated with loud music, but with a quiet remembrance as a demonstration of the locals’ piety. Aside from witnessing the show of religiosity during this time, these months are also favorable for travel due to their fair-weather condition. Additionally, since they fall on the shoulder season, the rates for Paray-le-Monial accommodations are more affordable.
