Nordkapp: Europe’s Northernmost Point
Nordkapp, Norway or also known by its English name North Cape, which the area was historically called from way back 1553, is a town in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. Every year during summer, thousands of visitors hoping to cross out the town from their bucket list are drawn to its shores. The Honningsvåg Airport (HVG) in Valan is the airport that serves the area.
Best Time to Visit
Northern Norway is always scenic, no matter what month you go. However, the ideal time to visit Nordkapp is during the summer season of mid-May to the end of June when the midnight sun is visible. Travelers who are hoping for the perfect shot of the midnight sun as it illuminates the globe on the Nordkapp plateau keep the town busy during this period, which means most Nordkapp, NO hotels are filled for the whole season.
What to Do & Area Attractions
A few hours hike to the scenic Knivskjellodden is an adventure you will never forget. When you come down, you can visit the small but packed North Cape Museum with its exhibits on the coastal culture and fish industry in Finnmark County, and then you can wander through the Honningsvag Port, considered the largest cruise port in Northern Norway. The oldest hotel in Honningsvåg, Arctic Hotel Nordkapp, offers fine accommodations while only being a few feet from Hurtigruten Terminal. The ideally located Scandic Honningsvag is a modest hotel that’s near some landmarks as well as the airport. Nordkapp Hostel, a modern inn, is set amidst a property with beautiful scenery.
