Locorotondo: Getting Lost in a Village Atop a Hill
Locorotondo is a small town located in the City of Bari, Puglia in the south of Italy. Named as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy ('Borghi più belli d'Italia'), Locorotondo is an ideal place to get lost in.
Best Time to Visit
Months of July to August is tourist season in Puglia, so if you are planning a holiday, book your Locorotondo hotel in advance. The shoulder months of May, June and September are perfect for walking, weather-wise, and there are fewer crowds, which means better hotel deals. Locorotondo festivals you can attend include the Locus Festival in late July to early August and the San Giorgio in April.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Unlike other tourist destinations, Locorotondo, Italy does not have definite attractions because the entire village is an attraction in itself, from its location at the top of a hill down to its tiniest streets. Give yourself a few hours – or an entire day – to walk the old streets, marvel at the houses, bathe in the sun while sipping a cocktail or two, dine all’aperto and just generally have a lazy but very good time. One of the best hotels to stay at during your Locorotondo holiday is Sotto le Cummerse Albergo Diffuso, which is decorated in traditional Italian style, and is located amongst whitewashed houses along cobbled streets that give an authentic Italian feel. There is also the world-class Relais Il Palmento and the highly rated Petra Chiara B&B, both offering paid airport shuttle service.
