Lixouri: Sounds Like Luxurious But It Actually Is
Kefalonia Island’s second biggest town is Lixouri, Greece. Its name came about from an old document that was retrieved by the State of Venice during the early 16th century and thus, the town was founded. By the 19th century, tourism in the town started growing as its proximity to the blue coast of Argostoli enticed many visitors. World famous German composer Richard Strauss is only one of the many prominent figures that has visited Lixouri. Kefalonia International Airport (EFL) is a mere hour drive away.
Best Time to Visit
Lixouri, Greece has hot summers and mild winters due to its Mediterranean climate. It is best to visit during the middle of the year from months of June to September as these are months with plenty of sunshine to enjoy and little to no rainfall is experienced. However, as the town is a popular summer resort town, it is expected that it is bustling with tourists and Lixouri hotels are not cheap. The Lixouri Carnival is a vibrant themed mask or costume festival celebrated near Lenten season.
