Ko Mak: Thailand’s Best Kept Secret
Located in the National Marine Park on the eastern part of Thailand, Ko Mak (also Koh Mak) is a small privately owned Tropical Island with a laid-back vibe. Unlike the more popular islands Koh Kood and Koh Chang, Ko Mak is quiet and peaceful, with attractions that balance the tranquility of the place with entertainment and enjoyment.
Best Time to Visit
Ko Mak can be busy during the dry months of November to April. If you want a really quiet time in the island, come during months of May to October. The biggest resorts are closed during this period, but you would still be able to find Ko Mak hotels to accommodate you and give you good deals. Don’t miss the Thaibreak Festival if you are ever in the island in March.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Relax at any of the four beachfront resorts at the Ao Suan Yai, a long stretch of beach with pristine waters and powdery white sand. Learn about the history of the island and get a feel of how it is to live in Ko Mak during the early days at the Koh Mak Museum. Walk around the Koh Mak Temple and see various Buddha images that seem to be guarded by the dogs roaming freely in and around the temple. Ko Mak hotels you can book your stay in include the highly rated Ao Kao White Sand Beach Resort that offers access to a private beach. There is also Plub Pla Koh Mak Retreat– known for its exceptional cleanliness and service, and the quirky Bamboo Hideaway Resort, with its air-conditioned bamboo bungalows.
