Kithira also spelled as Cythera and Kythira is a Greek island strategically located between the Greek mainland and Crete. It is a beautiful secluded island located on the southern side of Peloponnese. Kithira’s long history and diverse culture had been influenced by many civilizations and these are reflected in its architecture, traditions and customs. Kithira has plenty of wonderful beaches, monasteries, and villages that can be enjoyed.
Best Time to Visit
The peaceful island of Kithira is best visited anytime from May to October when the weather is comfortably charming. Most tourists, however, go on a holiday in June, February and July, the island’s peak months so prices for Kathira, GR hotels and flights are pricier. Another good reason to swing by the island is during The Wine Festival on the first weekend of August to honor the rich wine production of Kithira. Wine and food overflow while locals and tourists alike are enjoined to participate in traditional dancing.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Going for a dip in the waters of Kithira is a must. The Kapsali Beach is a popular tourist with many facilities. A walk along the picturesque Port of Avlemonas is another enjoyable thing to do and when the weather permits, you can also visit the nearby island of Antikythira. The beautiful Cave of Milopotamos, which is only open during the summer months is definitely worth visiting.
