Kassel: The Home of Documenta
Kassel, Germany, also known and spelled as Cassel, is situated on the River Fulda in Hesse, Germany, which is a navigable tributary of the Weser River. The town’s name was derived from the Latin-Franconian castella, which means “stronghold”. The previous capital of the state of Hesse-Kassel has many palaces and parks, including the Wilhelmshoehe Park, which contains some of the most majestic structures in the Hesse region. Kassel is an important rail junction and an industrial centre that manufactures transportation equipment.
