About Thwaites Inns of Character Ings
Thwaites Inns of Character is a brand of pubs that come with rooms. It is developed by two-century-old brewer Thwaites. The company with a head office in Mellor Brook, Lancashire was founded by Daniel Thwaites in 1807 and has since expanded to include a growing collection of inns, spas, hotels, and pubs.
Thwaites Inns of Character was launched in 2011 as a part of the company's plan to create a chain of 25 inns by 2016. The idea behind the concept was to offer comfortable lodging in conventional coaching inn style along with a selection of local menu. A few days after the brand was launched, the Lion was refurbished into a 14-room Inn under the brand for £400,000. Thwaites' Shire Hotel managed the Inn under a joint venture agreement.
In 2012, The Fleece in Cirencester re-opened as part of the brand. Two years later, Judge's Lodging in York also re-opened as under Inns of Character after a £2.2m investment. The latest addition was the Beverly Arms, a historic coaching inn in Beverley town center. The 1790 building was transformed into a high-quality pub and restaurant with 38 rooms under the brand after a £6m investment.
