Hazard's location in the isolated mountains of Perry County, Kentucky, United States caused the slow start to this city's development, as the only way to get to Hazard was through 45 miles over the North Fork of the Kentucky River. Named after a local war hero, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the town of Hazard is home to an estimated 5,500 residents.
