Gainesville: Modern Casino Resorts and African Wildlife
Originally named Liberty, Gainesville had to go after a different name because Liberty, Texas already existed. Gainesville, TX was instead named after General Edmund Pendleton Gaines, as suggested by one of the original settlers in the region, Colonel William Fitzhugh. In earlier days, this region was developed with the intention of bringing in families to build a community in the North-Central region of Texas. Settlers in the region were required to pledge allegiance to Texas, build their houses and cultivate their lands in order to settle for good in the region. Farming became the main source of the region’s economy during its earlier days as a community.
