Florence Airport, Peretola – FLR Florence
Florence Airport, Peretola is the international airport of Tuscany’s capital, Florence, Italy. It is a commercial airport that serves as second busiest in the region next to Pisa International Airport. In its early years, the airport was named after an Italian merchant, Amerigo Vespucci, and was known to be Amerigo Vespucci Airport. It was only in 1992 that the airport inaugurated its building devoted for arrivals and in 1994, it opened its building for departures. Florence Airport, Peretola boasts of its excellence and quality in service having a UNI EN ISO 9001/2000 certification, one of the first airports to be awarded in Europe. It was renovated in 1999 with expansions of terminals, aircraft parking areas and other facilities that meet the ISO requirements. With its single runway, the main taxiway is at the end of Runway 5 and the holding area at the end of runway 23. Some of the destinations served in the airport are travels to and from Paris, Rome, London, Madrid, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Copenhagen and other European countries going to and from Florence. The airport has a terminal for the Florence light-rail network’s second line and has bus lines connected to the city.
