Eagle County Regional Airport – EGE Eagle County
Serving the greater area of Eagle County, Colorado, the Eagle County Regional Airport is the main gateway for Vail and Beaver Creek. In 2010, the airport was listed as the 8th Most Extreme Airports in America by History Channel. This is due to its mountainous terrain, elevation, and weather condition, making landing and takeoff extremely challenging. The airport operates on a seasonal basis, with the majority of its flight operations scheduled during winter. During this season, the airport is the second-busiest airport in Colorado because of the large number of passengers traveling to Eagle County for skiing.
Best Time to Visit
Eagle Country Regional Airport used to serve daily flight schedules in the 1970s before receiving mainline jet service. The increase of passengers traveling to and from the airport, especially during winter ski season, reached a total of 36 jet flights per week, in 1994. To accommodate the growing number of travelers, the airport underwent renovations in 2001 and 2007. Recently, a new terminal was added with four gates and upgraded facilities and services. Passengers can now take advantage of these upgrades ensuring that their next trip to Glenwood Springs or New Castle is smooth flowing.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There are no onsite hotels at Eagle County Regional Airport as most travelers head-off directly to hotels near ski resorts, such as Grand Hyatt Vail or the Vail Racquet Club Mountain Resort. Alternative hotels located within a 5-mile radius are the Best Western Plus Eagle Lodge & Suites and the Eagle River Lodge.
