Brittania Hotels started its operations in 1976 upon the purchase of the Brittania Country House Hotel in Didsbury, Manchester. The founder and largest shareholder of the group is still Alex Langsam. Their second purchase in 1981 which was of the former Watts Warehouse provided a standard for their type of establishments in the following years to come. In 1987, they converted an unused building in Manchester that has been the city’s C&A department store. They turned it into the Sachas Hotel. From 1992 until the following 10 years, the group has acquired over 16 more hotels in different locations in the United Kingdom.
