Coyhaique: A Year-Round Chilean Destination

What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the must-see attractions in the area is Laguna San Rafael National Park, which was built in 1959. It was named after San Rafael Lagoon, which was formed by the San Rafael Glacier retreat. It is home to various bird species, such as black-browed albatrosses, black-necked swans, great grebes, among others. Wildlife in the park includes Chilean dolphins, marine otters, sea lions, among others. It was declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1979. Another interesting site to visit is Monument to the Ovejero, which was inaugurated in 1944. In 1962, the bronze structure was launched to replace the original structure, ensuring longevity. Tourists should also visit Queulat National Park, which is famous for its glacier-capped mountains and Valdivian temperate rain forests. It is home to different bird species. Wildlife in the park includes kodkod and pudu.
