Chinandega: Sweet, Sweet Seaside City
The fifth largest city is Nicaragua is called Chinandega, Nicaragua. The Pacific Ocean is just a few miles away so you can find several resorts nearby the city proper. It is also close to the border that separates Nicaragua and Honduras. The city is successful on its agriculture and fisheries sectors, most especially with sugar and shrimp production. “The City of Oranges,” is also what the city is called sometimes.
Best Time to Visit
Chinandega prevails with a tropical savanna climate despite being close to coast. It is more often hot and humid than not. But the best time to visit the city to enjoy the many beaches and explore the ancient sites without any interruption would be between December and March. These months are the driest months as moderate to heavy rain showers are experienced otherwise. Tourism is fairly slow too so you can get Chinandega hotels at lower rates.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Stay close to the coast when you book a room at the cottage-like accommodation of Hotel Suyapa Beach. It is also very budget-friendly. On the other hand, Hotel Los Portales is much closer to the town center and features an outdoor swimming pool and a spa facility. You can also check the San Juan De Leon Hotel that is close to a state park. While in Chinandega, you should not miss a tour around the Museo Chorotega-Nicarao where various historical artifacts are on display and some even for sale. Other intriguing museums you should also go to are Ruben Dario Museum – found at the Ruben Dario Park, and Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian Museum of Art.
