Chiang Saen: A trip to the “Future site of tallest flagpole”
Chiang Saen is located in the north part of Chiang Rai Province and it plays a significant role in barter trade with other country. The ruler of the Lanna Kingdom, Saen Phu, the grandson of King Mengrai, founded Chiang Saen in the year 1325. This city suffered raids and invasions from different races and tribe, Chiang Saen was even left a ghost town for nearly a hundred years. Yet, it rose up and will be the site of the tallest flagpole in the world measuring almost 190 meters high carrying Thailand’s flag that was said to be visible as far as 12.4 miles away after it is finish in the year 2020.
Best Time to Visit
From months of November up to February would be the perfect time to visit Chiang Saen. January was recorded to have the highest number of visitor, considered as the busiest month and expensive month for Chiang Saen. Chiang Saen hotel reservations and plane tickets are said to be quite higher compare to other months. Months from April to May tend to slow down tourist influx and come June to October would be the lowest season.

Chiang Saen’s history was so diverse that guest and tourist would be hopping from one museum to an ancient temples. The numerous artifacts and archaeological wonders and ruins will amaze archaeologist and architects. Visitors have quoted Chiang Saen as a city museum as it tells the history while tourists wanders around.
