Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) is located in Ladyville, to about ten miles from Belize City, Belize. It is the country’s only international airport, and the seventh busiest among all airports in Central America. It is also the hub for air carriers Tropic Air and Maya Island Air. Currently, scheduled flights to Latin America, Mexico, the USA, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean are offered by ten international airlines, which operate from this airport. In 2016, Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport handled around 867,976 passengers.
Best Time to Visit
The airport started out in 1943 with the construction of an asphalt runway, a small apron, and a taxiway. A terminal building was built the following year, and inaugurated on January 15, 1945. Formerly called the Belize International Airport, it was renamed to honor the memory of Philip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson, a politician and nationalist who died in 2001. This international airport is the best gateway for those wanting to visit Belize City, as well as Fort George.

Another airport serving the country’s largest city of Belize is the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport (TZA), formerly called the Belize City Municipal Airport. This airport is more centrally situated than Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport, being located just 1 mile from the city center.
