Kempegowda International Airport – BLR Bengaluru
Kempegowda International Airport is the main airport of Bengaluru, India, the capital city of Karnataka. The airport has a land area of 4,000 acres and is 25 miles north of the city. The airport was opened on May 2008 to serve as an alternative airport for flights HAL airport can no longer serve. Kempegowda International Airport is a solar powered airport, one of the firsts in India. It is a very busy airport ranking third busiest in India next to Mumbai and Delhi, and 29th in Asia. In 2017, it has already served 25.04 million passengers with more than 600 aircraft movements daily. The airport has a passenger terminal and a single runway for domestic and international flights. The passenger terminal’s lower floor serves the check-in and baggage counters while the other floors serve as departure gates. Aside from the passenger terminal, the airport has its own fuel farm and cargo facilities. Currently, it launched its second runway and started constructing its second terminal and, with its expansion, it is expected to serve 55 million passengers every year.
