MaramureșInternational Airport – BAY
Located on the northwestern side of the country, Maramureș International Airport is a public-use airfield operated by the Maramureș County Council. While it is geographically under the rule of the town of Tăuții-Măgherăuș, the airport handles most of the passenger traffic from the nearby town of Baia Mare, Romania. As the historical region of the county, Baia Mare accommodates quite a number of tourists every year, making the airport one of the busiest in the country. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) assigned BAY as the Maramureș International Airport’s airport code.
Best Time to Visit
Although Maramureș International Airport is served by three airlines, only one offers scheduled regular flights, a route to and from Bucharest. The other two airlines, AtlasGlobal and Blue Air, provide travelers with seasonal charter flights to the city of Antalya in Turkey. In 2013, the total passenger handled by Maramureș International Airport amounted to almost 17,000, while the aircraft movements are at nearly a thousand during that year. If you’re visiting Baia Mare, include the attractions of Recea in your itinerary.
