Bad Harzburg, Germany is a town in Lower Saxony known for its saltwater spa resorts. The modern community was established in 1972 upon the merger of Westerode, Harlingerode, Bündheim-Schlewecke, Bettingerode, and Bad Harzburg. It was incorporated in 1972.

It is ideal to visit Bad Harzburg during the months of May through September, for the perfect weather. The busiest months are usually February through April. Tourists are least likely to visit in October. One of the most anticipated events in the area is Day of Lower Saxony. It is a three-day cultural festival that aims to promote the cultural diversity in the state. More importantly, it seeks to cultivate the sense of belongingness of the entire local community. Since 1981, it was held annually until 2015, when it became a biannual celebration. Each time, there is a different host city within the state.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Tourists should visit Harzburg or Great Harz Castle when in town. Established in the early second century, it has now almost completely disappeared. Only ruins of the foundation walls, towers, and the well are left of the original infrastructures and are preserved. Another famous attraction in the area is Harz National Park, a nature reserve that is home to a lot of endangered and rare animals like black storks, dippers, Eurasian lynxes, European wildcats, and peregrine falcons.
