Ankang Wulipu Airport – AKA Ankang
Ankang Wulipu Airport with airport code AKA is the only airport serving Ankang, China. It is located in the Shaanxi Province and the Wuli town. The airport is 9km from the city center. This prefecture city is bordering Hubei, Chongquing and Sichuan. Unfortunately, the airport is closed because of the new one being built. The Ankang Fuquiang Airport was opened last October 1, 2019. This is located in the town of Fuquiang hence the name. The defunct Ankang Wulipu Airport has only one runway that is 1600m x 30m wide. The terminal building is only 1,200 square meters.
Best Time to Visit
Angkang Wulipu Airport (AKA) was built in the late 30s. It was for military purposes. It has expanded after the war. The United States Air Force has utilized this as part of Defensive Campaign. They have used the airfield to gather intelligence over Japan held territories starting from April until September. After a month, the Americans have closed their base in the airport. The airport is designed to handled around 300,000 passengers annually.
