Gran Meliá is one of the seven brands managed by the Spanish hotel group Meliá Hotels International. The chain based in Palma de Mallorca in 1956 was a brainchild of Gabriel EscarrerJuliá. Other brands under the group are Meliá Hotels & Resorts, Innside, ME by Meliá, Sol Hotels, Club Meliá, and Paradisus Resorts.

Gran Meliá, which targeted leisure and business travelers, has 11 hotels under its portfolio mainly located across Spain. It also has a presence in Rome, Venezuela, China, and Indonesia. Just recently, Seville-based Hotel Colón, a property under the brand was named a new member of Virtuoso, a network of international travel agencies with a particular focus on luxury experiences in major tourist destinations worldwide.
